Construct Override

“Come on, let’s put all that magic to good use!” - Tasha, the artificer

5th-Level Enchantment

Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer, Artificer
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a shard of crystal attuned to the construct’s essence or a glyph-inscribed parchment)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Description:

You attempt to take control of a magical construct within range or disrupt a ward’s protective enchantment. Choose a magical construct or ward within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or succumb to your control. For constructs, while under your influence, the creature acts on your initiative and follows your mental commands. For wards, the ward becomes inert for the duration, rendering any protective effects null.

While controlling a construct, the caster must maintain concentration. If the caster looses concentration, the spell ends, and the construct regains its previous autonomy.

The spell cannot target constructs with a CR higher than 9 or wards created by spells of 7th level or higher.

At Higher Levels:

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the maximum CR of the construct increases by 2, and you can target wards created by spells of one level higher for each slot above 5th.
