Mind Extraction

7th-Level Enchantment

Classes: Wizard, Warlock, Bard Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a silver needle, a drop of mercury, and a small vial containing a mixture of the caster’s and target’s blood, worth 500 gp)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Description:

You pierce into the mind of a creature within range, delving into its thoughts, memories, or secrets. The target must make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, you gain access to a specific thought, memory, or secret of your choice. For the duration, you can continue probing the target’s mind, extracting one additional thought, memory, or secret at the end of each of your turns.

The target is aware of the intrusion and suffers psychic torment. While affected by this spell, it has disadvantage on Intelligence and Wisdom ability checks and saving throws. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Intelligence saving throw. On a success, the spell ends.

If the target succeeds on its initial saving throw, it takes 8d6 psychic damage as its mind fights back against your intrusion, but no information is revealed.

At Higher Levels:

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the duration increases by 1 minute for each slot level above 7th. Additionally, you can extract two pieces of information per turn instead of one.
