Spell Hijack
“No the fuck you don’t!” - Vivian Thorett, The 13th Archmage of the Stenklif Tower clan
4th-Level Abjuration
Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer, Warlock , Bard
Casting Time: 1 reaction, taken when a creature you can see within 60 feet casts a spell
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Description:
You attempt to wrest control of a spell as it is being cast by another creature within range. As part of this reaction, make a contested spellcasting ability check against the original caster’s spellcasting ability check.
- On a success, you redirect the spell’s target to a new target within the spell’s range. If the spell affects an area, you can reposition the area within the original spell’s range.
- On a failure, the spell proceeds as intended, and you take psychic damage equal to twice the spell’s level.
You cannot hijack a spell with a casting time longer than 1 action or reaction, nor can you redirect spells with a range of “Self.”
You can only hijack spells of 4th level or lower.
At Higher Levels:
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you gain advantage on the contested spellcasting ability check. Additionally, you can redirect spells of one level higher for each slot above 4th.
